Introduction The Sony designers are big fans of ultra-wide angle lenses, it seems – because there are so many of them. Currently, there are no less than 7 prime – and zoom lenses that qualify. One of them is the Sony FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G. Spec- and price-wise, it sits between the FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II and the FE PZ 16-35mm f/4 G. So does it combine the best of both worlds? It’s 40% more light-weight than the GM lens, so in this respect, it is certainly more related to the 16-35mm f/4 G. It just trades a bit…

Press Release Thypoch’s debut lenses, the Simera 28mm & 35mm f/1.4, first launched in 2023, made waves with their fusion of retro aesthetics and modern optical engineering. Now, Simera 28mm and 35mm ASPH type ii are available with a crescent-shaped focus tab, offering an enhanced user experience. Compatible with Leica M, Nikon Z, Fujifilm X, and Canon RF mounts, these new versions replace the infinity-lock mechanism with an ergonomic focus tab, enabling smooth, single-finger focusing. Simera series is one of the very few M mount lenses that designed with floating groups which ensure identical performance from infinity to close focus.…

Fujifilm has many prime lenses in their lineup but strangely, there are only 2 in the ultra-wide segment (as of the time of this writing). There’s the 14mm f/12.8 which isn’t all that wide really (equivalent to FF 21mm), and then there’s the rather extreme Fujinon XF 8mm f/3.5 R WR. You may debate whether a 8mm (=FF 12mm) was really a high priority with the large gap in between, but it is what it is, so let’s check it out. At $800 USD, it isn’t exactly a cheap lens, but it undercuts the in-house zoom lenses alternatives by quite…
Once we again, we are pursuing the “need for speed” – this time with the Viltrox AF 35mm f/1.2 LAB FE. It’s Viltrox’ 2nd “LAB” lens, indicating that this is a member of their highest grade of lenses – following the great AF 135mm f/1.8 LAB FE. Needless to say – 35mm lenses are among the most versatile out there. They can be used for anything from street photography, to nightscapes, landscapes and even portraits. In terms of pricing, Viltrox is pretty bold this time around. The AF 35mm f/1.2 FE LAB has an ambitious price tag of $999USD (£959,€1099,$1449AUD,¥164,899)…
